Romeo & Juliet: The Hate Story
Briefly

Lucas Lucan Lima's debut production, produced by Lima and directed by Annie Araba, reimagines Romeo and Juliet as a modern-day hate-driven comedy. The two leads share convincing chemistry amid absurd, shocking humour. The pair meet after a violent opening incident on a Ryanair flight to Verona, leading to a drug-related escapade involving stolen bags and an exclusive new drug. They seek help from Romeo's dangerous prison friend Laurence, who forces them to steal a recipe from Tybalt's mansion. The mission spirals into an entertaining, haphazard escape after Romeo kills Tybalt in revenge for Mercutio, and ends with a tequila-fuelled twist.
What Lima's debut production is certainly not devoid of is convincing chemistry between the two leads and plenty of absurd, shocking humour. The premise of this modern-day production focuses more on the hate aspect and less on the Romeo and Juliet' part. Produced by Lucas Lucan Lima and directed by Annie Araba, this comedy borrows several characters from the original play to loosely mirror some of the key plot points.
Strapped for cash, Juliet decides to pay Laurence for his services by retrieving the recipe for the flashy drug. Laurence then sends Romeo and Juliet on a forced mission to break into Tybalt's mansion and steal the book containing the recipe. What ensues is an entertaining, haphazard escape mission after Romeo kills Tybalt for the revenge of his best friend' Mercutio.
