A rarely seen set of drawings of Charles Dickens rehearsing for plays is on display in London for the first time. The Charles Dickens Museum acquired sketches showing Dickens and members of his theatre company during rehearsals for Mr Nightingale's Diary and The Frozen Deep. Nathaniel Powell, Dickens's neighbour at Tavistock House, made the informal on-the-spot sketches in 1855 and 1857. The drawings remained in family archives until offered for sale earlier this year and were purchased with support from the Art Fund, Arts Council England/V&A Purchase Grant Fund and the Wilkie Collins Society. One sketch joins the Showtime! exhibition and the remainder will be displayed in Dickens's study until 21 September.
