Met Museum Workers Are Officially Unionized
"We won because we were able to convince our colleagues that they don't have to accept whatever is offered to them, that their experience and hard work have earned them a seat at the table,"
"look[s] forward to engaging with the UAW as we pursue The Met's mission to connect all people to creativity, knowledge, ideas, and one another."
Staff at the Metropolitan Museum of Art voted to form a union under United Auto Workers (UAW) Local 2110 following a National Labor Relations Board election on January 16. The union will represent employees across 50 departments, including curators, librarians, conservators, visitor experience staff, and archivists. Organizers initially sought to represent about 1,000 of the museum's roughly 2,000 employees and cited goals such as pay parity, increased representation, and greater transparency. The vote passed by 76% with 542 in favor, 172 opposed, and 100 ballots not counted amid eligibility disputes. The Met said it looks forward to engaging with the UAW.
