London's biggest theatre to open in Greenwich next year with 3,000 seats
"The theatre production company wants to build the venue which will contain two 1,500 seater auditoriums on a patch of land on the east side of the peninsula next to the cable car station. A Troubadour spokesperson said: At Troubadour, we believe in creating spaces that inspire both artists and audiences. These two new 1,500-seat auditoriums will provide unmatched flexibility for producers and directors, enabling ever more ambitious shows to take the stage."
"Construction on the theatre would begin in February and it would open to the public in October 2026. Troubadour currently operates two theatres in London, one in Wembley Park and the other in Canary Wharf. The Canary Wharf venue is set to open next month with the premiere of the first-ever theatrical adaptation of the book and film series The Hunger Games, while Andrew Lloyd Webber's Starlight Express is currently playing in Wembley."
Troubadour Theatres plans a 3,000-seat venue on the east side of Greenwich Peninsula comprising two 1,500-seat auditoriums adjacent to the cable car station. The company aims to begin construction in February and open the theatre to the public in October 2026. Troubadour has launched a public consultation and expects to submit a planning application in the autumn for approval early next year. The company currently runs venues in Wembley Park and Canary Wharf, with the Canary Wharf site premiering a theatrical adaptation of The Hunger Games. The Greenwich site is intended for a ten-year operating period before redevelopment.
