Park Life announces a new exhibition of work from Bay Area artist Jason Jägel and marks Jägel's first show with the gallery. The exhibition opens the artist's studio flat files, presenting mostly brand-new pieces alongside works reworked or transformed from long-held, incomplete pieces. The past year involved feeling lost and low, with drawing and painting serving as a lifeline during tough times and providing material to rebuild toward a renewed, clarified identity. Drawing and painting function as an oldest, constant friend and a second self, offering a space to practice commitment, to strive and fear, fail and persist, and to explore color, pattern, people, and narrative.
"Others are works that were in various states of completion, in my flat files for who knows how long, that I now felt had potential to be reworked or transformed. The past year I often felt lost and low. During tough times, my lifeline was making these drawings and paintings. The low points eventually became ground to build on, ushering in a renewed, clarified identity."
"Drawing and painting is my oldest and most constant friend. Drawing and painting is like a second self. It is a space to practice commitment, that invites me to both strive and to fear, to fail and persist. I'm here experiencing color and pattern and people, looking for the unexpected and a sense of a story I can project myself into."
