"On January 17 Jennifer Wright gave a stellar performance of her compositions for her self-crafted instruments. This performance marked the conclusion of a month-long exhibition of her instruments and sound sculptures in the galleria of PLACE in Northwest Portland. This is the performance where she said she "finally had a chance to let all the parts of me out to play.""
"The venue, PLACE, is an architectural design firm with an impressive portfolio of projects. The firm's Portland office space was decorated with cardboard mock-ups of its past designs, large snake plants, birds of paradise, and other massive indoor ferns. And for some reason they had a fleet of Ducati motorcycles all around the space. It is not the first exhibition of Wright's work as a visual artist."
"The larger forms emerge from the accumulation of tiny fragments of detritus. Standing tall in the galleria were The Phoenix (a large dress made from cat food tins) and the wearable Albatross from Long Strings. There were some new pieces as well. Right past the entrance, guests were greeted by a wooden box of old vinyl records to step over. Just past this were neon-painted records suspended from the ceiling, with colorful stones and pieces of candy strewn about on the floor beneath."
On January 17 Jennifer Wright performed compositions on instruments she built. The performance concluded a month-long exhibition of her instruments and sound sculptures in the galleria of PLACE. PLACE is an architectural design firm whose Portland office featured mock-ups of past designs, large plants, and Ducatis. Wright showed the Glass Piano with Bonnie Meltzer at the Oregon Jewish Museum for the Burned Piano Project. The PLACE exhibition displayed intricate repurposed works such as The Phoenix (a dress of cat food tins), the wearable Albatross, neon-painted suspended records with scattered stones, and an eerie piano installation with wire arcing around a shrouded mannequin.
