In Conversation: Will Wilson
Briefly

In Conversation: Will Wilson
"Wilson's work reexamines how Native peoples have been photographed and represented over time. Using modern photographic techniques and digital media, he responds to Curtis's influential project The North American Indian (1907-1930), inviting viewers to reflect on questions of identity, visibility, and who has the power to shape the images we see."
"Through this dialogue between past and present, In Conversation offers a thoughtful and engaging look at photography's role in shaping cultural narratives."
The Visual Arts Center of New Jersey, in partnership with Art Bridges, presents In Conversation: Will Wilson through August 23, 2026. The exhibition juxtaposes contemporary photographs by Diné artist Will Wilson with historic images from Edward Sheriff Curtis's The North American Indian project (1907-1930). Wilson's work reexamines how Native peoples have been photographed and represented historically. Using modern photographic techniques and digital media, Wilson responds to Curtis's influential project, prompting viewers to consider identity, visibility, and power dynamics in image creation. The exhibition explores photography's significant role in constructing and perpetuating cultural narratives. Concurrent exhibitions include Present and Growing by Gabriel Garcia Roman and With Passing Years by Chrystofer Davis.
