Nichelle Lewis appears as Sarah in the Broadway revival of Ragtime, portraying a love story with Harlem musician Coalhouse Walker Jr. that spans hope and tragedy. The musical interweaves multiple storylines to depict turn-of-the-century America on the brink of seismic change. Lewis experienced an emotional opening night and encountered original cast members in the audience, including Audra McDonald and Brian Stokes Mitchell. McDonald offered mentorship, advising Lewis to leave the character at the theater and praising her contributions to the cast.
