Cooking show stirs up memories in 'Running After Shadows'
""My stepfather was trying to convey to my father how important it is for him to come see me and spend time with me," Durham recalled."
""It was interesting because this man who didn't care for me from the age of 4 to whatever was taking the time to tell my dad that he needed to come around more often.""
A seminal childhood memory of a stepfather urging a biological father to spend time with his son inspired a one-man show, Running After Shadows. The story centers on Morgan, an up-and-coming gourmet who uses social media to build a culinary career. An Instagram unboxing leads to an unexpected discovery that forces Morgan to confront a painful past shaped by an absent father. The play received Theatre Bay Area's 2025 Rella Lossy Award and will have its world premiere at San Jose's City Lights Theater Company for a three-week run beginning Jan. 24. City Lights originally commissioned the work in 2020; the current iteration more closely matches the creator's intent.
