Carnegie International Announces Artists for 2026 Iteration
"The Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh has named the sixty-one artists and collectives slated to participate in the Fifty-Ninth Carnegie International, to take place May 2, 2026-January 3, 2027. Titled "If the word we," this edition of the quadrennial event is the largest to date and will appear at the Carnegie as well as various institutions across the city including the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh, the Kamin Science Center, the Mattress Factory, and the Thelma Lovette YMCA."
""This International emerged through sustained relationships rather than a single curatorial framework," said the curators. "Projects developed through extended exchanges with artists, writers, and collaborators-often over several years-allow works to evolve in response to specific sites, contexts, and forms of knowledge. This process shaped an exhibition attentive to how ideas move across places, disciplines, and histories as they take form in the present.""
Sixty-one artists and collectives will participate in the Fifty-Ninth Carnegie International, scheduled for May 2, 2026–January 3, 2027, under the title "If the word we." Exhibitions will appear at the Carnegie Museum of Art and partner institutions across Pittsburgh, including the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh, the Kamin Science Center, the Mattress Factory, and the Thelma Lovette YMCA. The program emphasizes new commissions and site-responsive works, including an immersive animation by Torkwase Dyson in the Kamin planetarium and a collaborative installation by Arturo Kameya and Claudia Martínez Garay co-commissioned with the Mattress Factory. Curators Ryan Inouye, Danielle A. Jackson, and Liz Park prioritized projects developed through sustained relationships and extended exchanges, allowing works to evolve with specific sites, contexts, and forms of knowledge.
