"Taking time to take a closer look is always worthwhile,"
"I think they are testing the waters to see how willing the public are to accept A.I. images so then they can fire or not hire creatives and professionals,"
"They need to acknowledge was happened, explain why it happened, and who approved it, "I want them to take accountability and commit to not using generative A.I.""
The British Museum posted images on Instagram and Facebook on January 27 that contained AI-generated content, showing a young woman standing in profile contemplating museum exhibits. The caption read "Taking time to take a closer look is always worthwhile," and the post used the hashtag #YourMuseum while tagging an AI model account and AI marketing agency V8 Global. Several archaeologists criticized the museum's use of AI, calling the action a precedent and suggesting cost-saving motives, including Steph Black. The post remained public for about six hours before removal after a flood of negative comments. Some critics were reportedly unfollowed by the museum after speaking out, prompting demands for acknowledgement, explanation, and a commitment not to use generative AI.
