Bonhams will auction 30 Bob Ross paintings to benefit public television following Trump's funding cuts
"Three paintings by the beloved American artist and The Joy of Painting host Bob Ross are expected to fetch as much as $145,000 in total at a Bonhams Los Angeles auction in November. American Public Television (APT), a non-profit syndicator of programming, will donate all proceeds to support public television stations across the US. The fundraising sales come after US President Donald Trump and a Republican-controlled Congress rescinded more than $1bn in federal funding previously allocated to support public broadcasters."
"The painting is fresh to market, and has been stored by Bob Ross Inc. It was painted during filming and has an estimate of $30,000 to 50,000. The third painting, Cliffside (1990) was painted for Ross's The Joy of Painting Volume 20 instructional book. Ross spent extra time on the paintings to be published in his books, often between three and five hours on each work, Bonhams says."
Three original Bob Ross paintings will be auctioned at Bonhams Los Angeles in November with combined estimates up to $145,000. American Public Television will donate all proceeds to support public television stations across the United States. The works include Winter's Peace (1993) estimated at $30,000–$50,000, Home in the Valley (1993) estimated at $30,000–$50,000, and Cliffside (1990) estimated at $25,000–$45,000. Winter's Peace and Home in the Valley were painted during filming; Cliffside was prepared for a Volume 20 instructional book, where Ross often spent three to five hours per painting. Bonhams will offer 30 donated Ross paintings over 14 months.
