'An institution where you delve into works': details of AlUla Contemporary Art Museum announced
"The three pillars for this institution-and for AlUla-are heritage; the environment and the landscape; and community,"
"We want the artists to work with the community, with understanding the land, and with understanding where we are in AlUla."
"I don't want the archive to sit at the back of the museum,"
"The strategy of the collection is based and centred on the artist him or herself. We are creating a long"
The Lina Ghotmeh-designed AlUla Contemporary Art Museum will open at the AlUla culture and heritage site in northwest Saudi Arabia. A preview exhibition, Arduna, is installed in a temporary site on the AlUla oasis and features 80 works by artists including Wassily Kandinsky, Dana Awartani, Etel Adnan and Tarek Atoui. The museum's curatorial vision rests on three pillars: heritage; the environment and landscape; and community. Artists are expected to engage with local communities and the land. The museum will collect across artists' careers and digitize archives for public exhibition and researcher access. The AlUla site includes the World Heritage Site of Hegra, a Nabatean tomb complex.
