"In San Francisco, the AAPI community is so important and prominent and strong and has so many different voices. Now, more than ever, focusing on immigrant voices and the voices that add such strength to our nation in general is personally important for me as well."
"I've been a working artist in San Francisco for over 15 years now, and I've always gotten excited for things to happen in San Francisco. I think that drives our community to want to create more and create with all our hearts. That's what I love about the Art Fair, that it's easily accessible for the masses to get involved in art."
San Francisco's 14th annual AAPI Art Fair, running April 16-19 at Fort Mason's Festival Pavilion, highlights the cultural significance of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the Bay Area. The fair partners with the Asian Art Museum and Stanford University's Asian American Art Initiative. Local organizations including Edge on the Square and the Chinese Culture Center participate, alongside independent curator Mara Gladstone, who represents the Philippines at the Venice Biennale. Michelin-recognized restaurant Abaca provides culinary programming. Artist Chad Hasegawa, who moved from Hawaii to San Francisco over a decade ago, emphasizes the fair's importance for community creativity and accessibility, creating a mural on shipping containers to set the mood for visitors.
