274 Portland artists and groups share $1.22 million in project grants * Oregon ArtsWatch
""At its core, this program is about trust in artists and the value they bring to our city," Patricia Rojas, executive director of the Regional Arts & Culture Council, said in a news release on Friday, Jan. 23. "This second round of grants invests directly in the people and ideas shaping Portland's cultural landscape, reinforcing that the arts are a shared public resource.""
"The grants are relatively small and purposely given to a broad array of artists and organizations, not just the small number of large arts groups. They range from $1,000 to $5,000, with many in the $4,000-$5,000 range - enough to help artists and groups keep their projects going or start new ones. Grant winners were chosen from among 625 applications, and the grants are financed from the City of Portland's general fund and the city's voter-approved Arts Access Fund."
The Regional Arts & Culture Council and the City of Portland's Office of Arts & Culture awarded $1,220,000 in grants to 179 individual artists and 95 arts and cultural groups, with 107 grants going to first-time RACC awardees. The grants constitute the second round of Portland Arts Project Grants and are intentionally distributed broadly to support many artists and organizations rather than a few large institutions. Award amounts range from $1,000 to $5,000, commonly $4,000–$5,000, to help sustain or launch projects. Winners were selected from 625 applications, with funding from the City general fund and the voter-approved Arts Access Fund. Grantees cover multiple disciplines and community-centered projects.
