""At its core, this program is about trust in artists and the value they bring to our city," Patricia Rojas, executive director of the Regional Arts & Culture Council, said in a news release on Friday, Jan. 23. "This second round of grants invests directly in the people and ideas shaping Portland's cultural landscape, reinforcing that the arts are a shared public resource.""
"Arts organizations awarded range from 21ten Theatre for its summer residency program to Albina Music Trust for a Jefferson High School Chorus vinyl album and release party, Blanchet House for portraits and stories of unhoused community members, Hollywood Farmers Market for live music during market hours, Jazz Society of Oregon for the Cathedral Park Jazz Festival, Opera Theater Oregon for an opera about Sacajawea, Portland Revels for its Spring Revels show, and many more."
Regional Arts & Culture Council announced $1,220,000 in grants awarded to 179 individual artists and 95 arts and cultural groups. One hundred seven grants went to first-time RACC awardees. The grants are part of the second round of Portland Arts Project Grants and are funded from the City of Portland's general fund and the voter-approved Arts Access Fund. Grants range from $1,000 to $5,000, with many in the $4,000–$5,000 range, and support projects across visual and performing arts, film, literature, media arts, multi-disciplinary work, and social practice. Awards were chosen from 625 applications and distributed across a broad array of individual artists and organizations.
