Waymo's robotaxi expansion accelerates with 3 new cities | TechCrunch
"By the end of 2026, you should expect us to be offering 1 million trips per week,"
"introduction of Waymo and its autonomous driving technology is not a science experiment, but rather a proven, safe, new"
Waymo is expanding its commercial robotaxi operations into Detroit, Las Vegas, and San Diego, deploying a mix of self-driving Jaguar I-Pace and Zeekr RT vehicles. The rollout follows a phased approach that begins with human drivers mapping streets, transitions to autonomous operation with onboard sensors and software, and includes driverless testing and limited access for employees, media, and select consumers before full public service. Waymo has scaled from testing in Silicon Valley to services in Phoenix, the Bay Area, Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Austin, and reported over 250,000 weekly rides as of April. Additional market expansions are planned for 2026.
