Flexdrive is a rental-car and fleet management company acquired by Lyft in 2020. A spokesperson for Waymo did not say how many robotaxis would be deployed for the Nashville launch. The company currently has around 2,000 robotaxis on the roads in multiple US cities."
Waymo will provide fully autonomous robotaxi rides in Nashville, beginning through its proprietary app and expanding to allow ride matching on the Lyft app. Lyft's subsidiary Flexdrive will oversee vehicle maintenance and depot operations. Waymo currently operates about 2,000 robotaxis across multiple U.S. cities and plans to scale the Nashville fleet to hundreds of vehicles, with no specific timeline given. The companies first partnered in 2017 and ran a 2019 Phoenix pilot deploying about 10 robotaxis on Lyft. Waymo maintains a separate partnership with Uber in Austin, where Uber manages roughly 100 Waymo robotaxis.
