The Trump administration is focused on using artificial intelligence to compensate for a significant loss of employees across federal agencies. With over 148,000 civil servants leaving since January, the chief information officer, Gregory Barbaccia, emphasized the need to do more with less. AI is viewed as a crucial tool for improving efficiency and managing lean staffing. Barbaccia highlighted the importance of enterprise data platforms in powering AI and facilitating advanced analytics to optimize operations and decision-making processes.
"AI is the number one thing that is going to help people mitigate the staffing shortages," said Gregory Barbaccia, the chief information officer for the U.S. government, highlighting the administration's reliance on technology to counteract employee loss.
"The biggest challenge in my role is how to do more with less - how to still have the level of efficiency following up on your agency's mission for the taxpayer," emphasized Barbaccia, outlining the pressure on federal agencies amidst lean staffing.
"Enterprise data platforms - central systems connecting data from across an organization - are what's going to power AI and advanced analytics to actually get people more efficient," explained Barbaccia, stressing the importance of data integration for AI.
"What AI needs to be doing is collating and collecting this data that a human needs to make a decision and getting it to them in a way that makes sense," stated Barbaccia, clarifying the functional role of AI in decision-making.
