Forecasting extends existing patterns forward and can be useful, but it is not the same as modeling. AI performs well at pattern extension and calculation, but it cannot ask why assumptions changed without explanation or detect mathematical incompatibilities between revenue and hiring plans. Treating AI-generated forecasts as complete models can mislead decision-makers and lead to financial losses when numbers lack causal grounding.
