The California State Bar has come under scrutiny after revealing that some questions on the February 2025 bar exam were developed with the aid of artificial intelligence by ACS Ventures. This follows complaints from candidates about technical problems and irregularities during the exam. Despite admitting to these issues, the Bar did not acknowledge significant problems with the validity of its multiple-choice questions, leading to outrage from legal educators and exam candidates alike. Critics argue this raises serious concerns about the integrity of the exam and potential conflicts of interest.
The debacle that was the February 2025 bar exam is worse than we imagined, having questions drafted by non-lawyers using AI is just unbelievable.
Using AI-developed questions written by non-legally-trained psychometricians represents an obvious conflict of interest, as these psychometricians were also tasked with ensuring question validity.
