OpenAI hired Peter Steinberger, creator of OpenClaw, to work on bringing agents to everyone and to drive the next generation of personal agents. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman described a future that is extremely multi-agent and praised Steinberger's ideas about agents interacting to perform useful tasks. The move produced praise from OpenAI engineers, competitive jabs, and a flood of memes from engineers observing the talent war. OpenClaw and the agent-only social network Moltbook gained popularity as developers shared clips of autonomous agents posting and interacting. Steinberger said both Mark Zuckerberg and Sam Altman had made him offers.
