OpenAI released GPT-5.3-Codex, a coding model claimed to be about 25 percent faster with strong benchmarks. The company described the model as having been "instrumental in creating itself," with the team reportedly "blown away." Early versions of the model were used to debug training, manage deployment, and diagnose test results and evaluations, helping human engineers with development tasks. Those uses accelerated development workflows but did not amount to machines autonomously rewriting their own code in a continuous, recursive self-improvement loop. Public reaction mixed hype, fear, humor, and examples of companies amplifying such claims.
