Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, revealed that his team has received enticing offers, including $100 million signing bonuses, from Meta, which is striving to enhance its AI capabilities. Despite these offers, particularly attractive compensation packages, none of OpenAI's top talents have decided to leave. Altman highlighted the company's guiding mission of developing superintelligence as a major factor in retaining talent, along with the unique culture that fosters innovation. He remains confident that OpenAI is better positioned to achieve superintelligence and holds greater long-term value compared to its competitors.
Meta is attempting to boost the artificial intelligence side of its business, including recently spending $14bn to buy 49% of the startup, Scale AI.
Sam Altman said he respected Meta's aggression in competing with OpenAI, which makes the world's best known AI-powered product, ChatGPT.
He thought people were staying at OpenAI because of its mission of creating superintelligence and the economic awards and everything else flowing from that.
Mr Altman said he thinks OpenAI has a much better shot at actually delivering on superintelligence, and also may eventually be the more valuable company.
