ILA shelters built on these sites serve as signal boosters along the Lumen network with up to triple the power density compared to traditional ILA shelters and are designed to be updated, renewed, and scaled for the future."

It earmarked more than $100 million to bring high-speed connectivity up to 400Gbps across clouds, data centers, and metros, creating a more seamless, high-performance pipeline for AI workloads. Lumen Technologies is advancing a major intercity fiber expansion to support AI workloads, targeting 47 million intercity fiber miles by 2028 with 34 million new miles planned. This year Lumen added more than 2.2 million intercity fiber miles and projects 16.6 million total by year-end. Lumen built signal-boosting ILA shelters at 176 sites and completed IRU conduit deployments across 55 routes to secure long-term underground pathway rights. The network capacity increased by over 5.9 Pbps and more than $100 million was allocated to enable 400Gbps connectivity across clouds, data centers, and metros, extending a 400G-enabled network over 100,000 route miles.
