Guercino's painting King David has been added to the National Gallery, completing a collection through a £5.6 million inheritance tax settlement from Jacob Rothschild's estate. This piece complements two previously acquired works. Additionally, a Fabergé triptych crafted by Mikhail Evlampievich Perkhin has been purchased by the Musée du Louvre, symbolizing the birth of Grand Duchess Olga in 1895. This acquisition, which cost €2.2 million, was supported by a larger gift meant for the museum's Byzantine and Eastern Christian art department.
Guercino's King David has now joined its two companion works at the National Gallery, settling £5.6m in inheritance tax from the estate of Jacob Rothschild through the UK's Acceptance in Lieu scheme.
Mikhail Evlampievich Perkhin crafted a triptych icon presented to Tsar Nicholas II in 1895 to honor the birth of his first child, Grand Duchess Olga.
