Google DeepMind CEO says Meta poaching AI talent makes sense because 'they're behind and they need to do something'
Briefly

Meta is actively recruiting AI talent by offering significant financial incentives, driven by the need to catch up in the competitive AI landscape. According to Google DeepMind's CEO, Meta's strategy is a rational response to being behind in AI advancements. It recently attracted notable figures from leading firms with lucrative pay packages. However, many in the AI sector prioritize mission and responsible technology stewardship over high salaries, indicating a more profound commitment beyond monetary compensation.
Meta right now are not at the frontier, maybe they'll they'll manage to get back on there. It's probably rational what they're doing from their perspective because they're behind and they need to do something.
There's more important things than just money. Of course, one has to pay people their market rates and all of these things, and that continues to go up.
We've been maybe much less affected than many of the other companies in the space because people here are so mission-oriented.
They get these offers and then they say, 'Well, of course I'm not going to leave because my best case scenario at Meta is that we make money, and my best case at Anthropic is we affect the future positively.'
