"Gong Show" 3-Minute Tech Talks (SF)
"Presenters who work in science, tech, or another "it's hard to explain" field get 3 minutes to explain their work without confusing the audience. If the audience hears a word they don't understand, they ring a bell (*gong*). Presenters must pause, clarify, and keep going. Because this is a COY event, we also ask playful questions to humanize our smart friends."
"For Audience: Interrupt your smart friends. You might learn something new. You might not. Take the risk. Someone may talk about AI. Riveting stuff. Event Rules: Presentations are 3 mins. Pretend the audience has a small attention span (because they do). No jargon. Bell = "I don't get it" Presenters must clarify before moving on. Safe space! Don't just nod politely and stay confused. Ring your bell!"

Three-minute, jargon-free presentations give science, tech, and hard-to-explain professionals a chance to explain their work to a friendly audience. Audience members ring a bell when they hear an unfamiliar word; presenters must pause, clarify, and continue. The event includes playful questions to humanize presenters. Benefits for presenters include practice explaining work clearly and instant audience feedback. Audience benefits include interrupting presenters, taking a learning risk, and hearing unexpected topics like AI. Rules enforce a small-attention-span format, no jargon, mandatory clarification after a bell, and prohibitions on passive nodding and 'Well I think...' questions. Donations support free events and community building.
