Dems fret over DOGE feeding federal data into random AI
Briefly

A group of 48 House Democrats has expressed concerns regarding Elon Musk's company, DOGE, and its use of AI technologies. In a letter to the White House's Office of Management and Budget, the Representatives claimed that DOGE’s practices violate federal laws and OMB directives, potentially compromising government data. They highlighted specific instances where AI was allegedly misused, including a case of a White House aide doubling as a SpaceX employee creating unauthorized AI assistants. The Democrats emphasized the importance of adhering to security standards for federal data interactions, urging immediate action against non-compliant AI systems.
It is clear that DOGE's use of AI clearly does not meet the standards the previous memoranda set. We ask that you immediately terminate any use of AI systems that have not been approved ... or that do not comply with existing laws.
The Dems believe Musk, who as well as SpaceX and Tesla runs OpenAI rival xAI, is self-dealing by using his own Grok-2 AI model to ingest government data.
We cannot sacrifice security, privacy, and appropriate use standards when interacting with federal data.
The letter lists a number of instances where DOGE, in the Democrats' view, played fast and loose with AI in government agencies.
