"didn't see the dog before the impact, but the kids were screaming about it."
A Waymo driverless robotaxi struck a small, unleashed dog on a San Francisco roadway on Sunday night. The dog's condition remains unclear and Waymo said it has not received a status update. A Waymo spokesperson confirmed the vehicle made contact and said the company is dedicated to learning from the situation and improving road safety. A passenger riding in the vehicle reported the collision on Reddit, describing the dog as 20 to 30 pounds and rolling in the road when the vehicle rolled over it. Witnesses described yelping, crying and a gathered crowd. The rider expressed uncertainty about whether a human driver could have avoided the dog.
