Alibaba Cloud founder says early innovation doesn't need top-dollar hires: 'What happened in Silicon Valley is not the winning formula'
Briefly

True innovation does not stem from high salaries for engineers but from hiring capable individuals who can navigate the unknown. Wang Jian, Alibaba Cloud's founder, highlighted that American tech giants focus on leveraging their existing successes, which he considers average in terms of technology. He believes there is a significant opportunity for exploring undiscovered technologies. Wang noted that the strategy of competing for elite talent, akin to sports franchises vying for star players, is not necessarily the best approach for achieving true innovation.
"The only thing you need to do is to get the right person," Wang Jian said in an interview with Bloomberg.
"What happened in Silicon Valley is not the winning formula," Wang said.
Wang Jian emphasized, "Not really the expensive person because if it's a new business, if it's true innovation, that basically means talent."
Wang noted, "We have a tremendous opportunity to look at technology nobody knows today."
