AI tool to better assess Parkinson's disease, other movement disorders
Briefly

A researcher at the University of Florida has developed VisionMD, an open-source AI software that analyzes patient videos to monitor subtle motor changes in individuals with Parkinson's and other movement disorders. Dr. Diego Guarin created this tool to minimize the inconsistencies of traditional clinical assessments, enabling quicker and precise analysis. The software simplifies video review for clinicians, analyzes standard videos, and is designed to protect patient data by operating without internet reliance, addressing privacy concerns while enhancing the speed of patient evaluations and care advancements.
"Over the years, we have shown through our research that video analysis of patients performing finger-tapping and other movements provides valuable information about how the disease is progressing and responding to medications or deep brain stimulation," Guarin said.
"It's not cloud-based, so there is no risk of data leaving the network. You can even unplug from the internet, and it still runs."
