The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) reported a dramatic increase in AI-generated child sexual abuse images, with a 380% rise in cases from 2023 to 2024. In total, the IWF received 245 reports involving 7,644 AI-generated images, with a significant portion classified as category A, the most extreme type. The UK government is moving to outlaw the creation and distribution of AI tools that facilitate the creation of such materials. The report highlights the urgent need for more robust online safety measures as AI-generated content becomes more prevalent on mainstream platforms.
