Abu Dhabi bets on autonomous racing to accelerate AI and mobility innovation | Computer Weekly
""For me, A2RL represents the perfect fusion of passion and purpose,""
""Racing has always been about pushing machines to their limits, and in autonomy we're now pushing algorithms to do the same. Representing the UAE on this global stage is a privilege because it shows the world that Abu Dhabi is not just following innovation trends, it's setting them.""
""The racetrack is a live laboratory," Timpano said. "Every lap, every overtake, every algorithmic decision is a glimpse into the future of mobility.""
Abu Dhabi uses the Yas Marina racetrack as a live laboratory where the Autonomous Racing League (A2RL) tests AI-driven vehicles under realistic, high-speed conditions. A2RL exposes autonomous systems to GPS dropouts, sensor faults, unpredictable human inputs, and split-second decisions at speeds up to 250 km/h to generate data for safety and reliability systems. A2RL is embedded in a national deep-tech ecosystem led by the Advanced Technology Research Council, with Aspire defining challenges, the Technology Innovation Institute developing technologies, and VentureOne commercializing breakthroughs. The program aims to position Abu Dhabi as a global leader in autonomous innovation.
