"The record nearly got beaten this week by Max and records are there to be broken. How he took his goal was quite amazing - the balance, the feet, the composure and the strength. So, I may have the record, but he's going be some player."
"These aren't going to come around very regularly, so I think my record's going to stand for quite a bit from now. The record has stood for 40-odd years and, I can't lie to you, it's a record that I'm very proud of - it's the goal I still remember vividly."
Max Dowman of Arsenal scored in the final minute against Everton to become the youngest goalscorer in Premier League history at 16 years and 73 days old. Jason Dozzell, the former Ipswich Town player who holds the record for youngest top-flight goalscorer at 16 years and 57 days, praised Dowman's composure and technique. Dozzell set his record in 1984 before the Premier League's creation and remains proud of the achievement after 40 years. Dozzell's own son Andre also scored for Ipswich at age 16. Dozzell believes his record will endure for some time despite Dowman's impressive breakthrough performance.
