Future stars impress Mikel Arteta as Arsenal edge past Mansfield in FA Cup
"Very proud of him, very proud as well of Marli, Arteta said. Obviously two 16-year-olds starting in the FA Cup. That tells us a lot about them, their personality and the quality that they have. Max, I think, was exceptional. I congratulated them. I think Max is the youngest ever in the competition (for Arsenal)."
Arsenal advanced to the FA Cup quarter-finals with a 2-1 victory over League One side Mansfield Town in a competitive match at One Call Stadium. Noni Madueke opened the scoring for Arsenal, but Mansfield equalized through Will Evans in the second half. Eberechi Eze's substitute appearance secured the winning goal for Arsenal. Manager Mikel Arteta made nine changes to his lineup, notably starting 16-year-olds Max Dowman and Marli Salmon. Dowman made his first appearance since November following an ankle injury and became Arsenal's youngest ever FA Cup player at 16 years and 66 days old. Arteta praised both teenagers for their performance and personality, highlighting their quality and potential.
