Tim Cook will resign as Apple CEO on September 1 after nearly 15 years, during which the company's market capitalization increased from $348 billion to about $4 trillion. John Ternus, the senior vice president of hardware engineering, will take over as the fourth CEO. Ternus oversees products generating 80% of Apple's revenue and faces challenges in AI and regulation. Cook will remain as executive chairman, focusing on policy and regulatory issues. The board unanimously approved the succession, with Arthur Levinson becoming lead independent director.
