Google is rolling out a mandatory software update for some Pixel 6A phones to mitigate potential battery overheating risks. This update will introduce battery management features that could reduce the battery capacity and charging performance after 400 charge cycles. Reports indicate that at least two users experienced severe issues, such as their devices catching fire. In light of these incidents and confirmed overheating risks, Google has pledged to inform affected users with guidance next month and has previously updated other models, like the Pixel 4A and 7A, for similar concerns.
A subset of Pixel 6A phones will require a mandatory software update to reduce the risk of potential battery overheating as part of Google's precautionary measures.
We're contacting impacted customers next month with all the information they need to address the battery issues and any necessary updates.
