The Framework Laptop 12 stands out with its colorful, approachable design, departing from traditional metal laptop aesthetics. Unlike previous models, this version features modular, repairable components that cater to tech enthusiasts. While plastic is often seen as inferior, the combination of ABS and TPU plastics provides a durable yet aesthetic casing. Framework's focus on user customization and support for Linux adds to its appeal, promising ease of future upgrades without compromising on the user experience.
Over a decade-plus of doing gadget reviews and review-adjacent things, my wife (and, lately, my 5-year-old) have mostly stopped commenting on the ever-shifting selection of laptops I have in my bag or lying around the house at any given time.
But she did ask about the Framework Laptop 12, the third and latest major design in Framework's slowly expanding lineup of modular, repairable, upgradeable laptops.
But well-done plastic can still feel solid and high-quality, in addition to being easier to make in different colors.
The result is something that can probably actually take the shock of a drop or a fall better than many aluminum-and-glass laptops.
