Apple to debut dedicated gaming app within days of Switch 2's arrival
Briefly

Apple Inc. is set to release a dedicated video gaming app for its devices by the end of the year, aiming to consolidate gaming achievements, communications, and more. This app will replace the less successful Game Center, feature promotional content, and include a Mac version allowing access to non-App Store titles. With the rise of competition, such as Nintendo's Switch 2, Apple seeks to enhance its gaming ecosystem, leveraging its substantial App Store revenue from games while also acquiring the indie studio RAC7 Games.
The new app will feature editorial content from Apple about new titles, offer access to the App Store's game section and promote Arcade, the company's $6.99-a-month subscription offering.
Apple is also planning a Mac version of the app that can tap into games downloaded outside of the App Store.
Apple's move is meant to enhance the experience on devices at a time when gamers have alternatives, including cloud services and consoles.
The iPhone remains one of the world's most used devices for gaming - a category that has been central to the App Store since 2008.
