Apple removes two gay dating apps in China after government order
"based on an order from the Cyberspace Administration of China"
"We follow the laws in the countries where we operate,"
"Among all foreign tech companies that provide services to Chinese users, Apple is probably the one which is most willing to comply with Chinese internet regulations,"
Apple removed Blued and Finka from its China App Store based on an order from the Cyberspace Administration of China. An "express" version of Blued remained visible while the difference between full and express versions and Android availability were unclear. Blued was available only in China, and Finka's developer had removed the app outside China earlier in the year. Grindr was previously pulled from Apple's China store in 2022. BlueCity, the parent company of both apps, was taken private and delisted from Nasdaq in 2022. LGBTQ+ groups and activism in China face intensifying constraints and pressure from authorities.
