Apple iPhone Air event: the eight biggest announcements
"The biggest announcement of the event was Apple's iPhone Air, its thinnest model ever. Previously, the Air moniker was limited to laptops and iPads, but it's now a thing for its phones, too. The iPhone Air is 5.6mm thick, with a 6.5-inch ProMotion display, and a camera bump - "plateau," sorry - that spans nearly the entire width of the device."
"Most of the iPhone Air's hardware seems to be contained in the camera bump, leaving the rest of the slim body available for a battery. It runs on the A19 Pro chip, which Apple claims can deliver MacBook Pro levels of processing power, and which is also in the iPhone 17 Pro. The iPhone Air includes a few firsts for Apple."
Apple unveiled a broad fall hardware lineup including the ultra-thin 5.6mm iPhone Air, other iPhone 17 models, new Apple Watch wearables, and AirPods Pro 3, all arriving September 19. The iPhone Air features a 6.5-inch ProMotion display and places much of its hardware inside a wide camera bump to free internal space for a battery. The phone runs the A19 Pro chip, promising MacBook Pro–level performance. New wireless components include the N1 chip (Wi‑Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, Thread) and the C1X modem, claimed to be twice as fast as the previous modem. The single-lens Fusion camera functions as both ultrawide and 2x telephoto, and the front-facing camera supports Center Stage.
