AirPods Pro 3 teardown video reveals unsurprisingly abysmal repairability score
"Apple launched the AirPods Pro 3 alongside the iPhone Air, iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max last month. Today, the new flagship TWS earbuds have been taken apart by iFixit, and you can see the full teardown video embedded below. Unsurprisingly for something so small, the earbuds are very hard to get into, as they're not meant to be disassembled. That said, the battery removal is the easiest ever on a pair of AirPods, but that's not a high bar to clear."
"Let's just say that trying to remove the driver basically destroys it. In the stem, a similar story unfolds. Basically, it's impossible to put them back together. And the same goes for the case. Interestingly, the case's battery is now a single-cell design, even though it was dual-cell for the AirPods Pro 2. In the end, the AirPods Pro 3 get a repairability score of 0 out of 10, which is the lowest possible (0 means least repairable, 10 would be most repairable)."
Apple launched the AirPods Pro 3 alongside the iPhone 17 series. iFixit performed a teardown that shows the tiny earbuds are extremely difficult to disassemble. Battery removal is the easiest step, but removing the driver or internal components essentially destroys them. Stems and the case present similar irreversible damage during teardown, making reassembly impractical. The case battery uses a single-cell design rather than the AirPods Pro 2 dual-cell arrangement. The AirPods Pro 3 received a repairability score of 0 out of 10. Even skilled technicians would face major challenges resealing units after any successful disassembly.
