After 2 years of charging my iPhone the 'Apple way' - here's how the battery has held up
"When I got my iPhone 15 Pro Max in September 2023, I decided that I'd do everything I could to make the battery last. Well, an accident destroyed that handset, so I restarted the experiment in March 2024. CNET: iPhone Battery Showdown: 3 Years of Data Show How the iPhone 17 Models Measure Up I wanted to see just how much lifespan I could get out of the battery."
"It seems that the iPhone's longer battery life makes the tradeoff worthwhile. After all, that iPhone 15 models and later can "retain 80% of their original capacity at 1,000 complete charge cycles under ideal conditions." I was curious as to what "under ideal conditions" meant, but I was determined to give my battery the best chance possible."
The iPhone 15 Pro Max displayed poor battery health after 18 months despite following Apple’s recommendations. An accidental handset loss prompted a restart of a battery-longevity experiment in March 2024. Battery life and lifespan provoke intense attention and numerous optimization guides. Apple added iOS tools, including a charge-cap feature, to help prolong battery lifespan. Setting a battery charge limit to 80% reduces potential degradation but sacrifices roughly 20% of daily usable capacity. iPhone 15 models and later claim the ability to retain 80% capacity after 1,000 complete charge cycles under ideal conditions. Charging reverted to 100% with the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
