The MBTA is testing new Charlie Card fare vending machines (FVMs) at Orange Line stations, which will allow for online reloads and improve the rider experience. Currently, these machines are for testing only, and riders are advised to use the existing ones. The new FVMs will eventually work their way across all stations. The agency is also seeking volunteers to participate in testing these machines through a recruitment survey available online.
The new card system will allow riders to reload their Charlie Cards with cash value and passes online and at the new machines, improving rider experience.
For now, new FVMs are for testing only & riders should continue to use existing FVMs to buy & reload fare products.
Transit officials are seeking volunteers to help the agency test the new system, according to the MBTA's website.
The Orange Line was the first to get the new silver and blue fare vending machines, with plans to expand to other stations.
