Tesla Sweden appeals after grid company refuses to restore existing Supercharger due to union strike
"One of our installers noticed that the construction power had been backed up and was on the ground. We asked Tesla to fix the system, and their installation company in turn asked us to cut the power so that they could do the work safely. When everything was restored, the question arose: 'Wait a minute, can we reconnect the station to the electricity grid?'"
"The union's sympathy actions, which began in March 2024, apply to work involving 'planning, preparation, new connections, grid expansion, service, maintenance and repairs' of Tesla's charging infrastructure in Sweden."
"Stefan Sedin, CEO of Jämtkraft elnät, told Dagens Arbete (DA) that power will not be restored to the existing Supercharger station as long as the electric vehicle maker's union issues are ongoing."
A Tesla Supercharger station in Åre, Sweden was temporarily disconnected in April for electrical safety repairs after a construction power cabinet fell over. Once repairs were completed, the power grid company Jämtkraft elnät refused to reconnect the station, citing ongoing union sympathy actions against Tesla that began in March 2024. The union's sympathy measures prohibit work on Tesla's charging infrastructure including planning, preparation, connections, maintenance, and repairs. Tesla argues that reconnecting an existing facility differs from establishing a new grid connection and has filed a complaint with the Swedish Energy Market Inspectorate seeking regulatory intervention to restore power to the operational station.
