Two specially equipped vans funded by a $707,000 state grant will provide vital legal resources, allowing direct access to probation officers. This initiative aims to mitigate transportation issues that hinder compliance, offering essential services such as hygiene kits and connections to employment and treatment programs. By bringing support directly to encampments and community events, the county hopes to improve engagement and reduce court appearances for those facing challenges due to homelessness.
"We want to get them into as many services and treatment programs as possible, but we also want to avoid any further court appearance that they may incur from failing to report."
"If we don't have that connection that's made, the person is likely to not engage as many services," Probation Division Manager Daron Story said.
