Omega-3 fish oil shows promise against type 2 diabetes
Brazilian researchers tested omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil in Goto-Kakizaki rats, a non-obese type 2 diabetes model. Rats received fish oil at 2 g/kg body weight three times weekly for eight weeks. Treated animals showed improved blood sugar control and reduced insulin resistance. Inflammatory markers decreased, and lipid measures improved, including total cholesterol and LDL. The findings point to immune and inflammation modulation as a potential pathway for addressing insulin resistance in non-obese type 2 diabetes.
