My Open Letter to the American Dental Association
Briefly

In a recent open letter to the American Dental Association, I advocate against the use of water fluoridation and mercury amalgam fillings based on emerging research linking these practices to health risks such as reduced IQ scores, ADHD, and thyroid dysfunction. Notably, many Western European countries have phased out water fluoridation in favor of preventive measures like education and fluoride-free options. Additionally, I emphasize the European Union's comprehensive ban on dental amalgam starting in January 2025, while U.S. federal programs continue to support practices that disproportionately affect vulnerable populations. It’s time for the ADA to align with modern health standards.
Despite longstanding support for water fluoridation, research indicating its link to reduced IQ scores, ADHD symptoms, and thyroid dysfunction compels a reassessment of this practice.
As seen in many Western European nations, the shift away from water fluoridation towards education and fluoride-free products demonstrates a progressive approach to dental health.
The use of mercury amalgam fillings in dentistry remains particularly concerning due to evidence of elevated blood mercury levels in patients with multiple amalgam fillings.
With the European Union's ban on dental amalgam effective January 2025 and ongoing use in the U.S., there’s a clear global divergence in dental practices impacting vulnerable populations.
