UK biostimulant startup SugaROx raises 1m to fast-track crop trials
Briefly

SugaROx has secured a £1 million seed round extension to advance the manufacturing and field testing of its precision biostimulant, Trehalose-6-Phosphate (T6P). The funding includes £400,000 from The Mosaic Company and contributions from other backers. Biostimulants are experiencing rapid market growth, and T6P aims to enhance crop yield by inhibiting an enzyme called SnRK1. Trials for soybeans and maize have commenced, with plans for a UK launch in 2027 and EU entry in 2028. The funding will help SugaROx shift from lab production to a pilot facility.
SugaROx aims to be a leader in the biostimulant market with its T6P product targeting wheat in the UK by 2027 and expanding to the EU in 2028.
Mark Robbins stated that the new funding is crucial for meeting the rising demand for product samples, allowing SugaROx to accelerate its manufacturing timelines.
